Ysh London can’t wait til March next year, as it seems, according to our calendar, to signal the start of a busy schedule of interesting exhibitions. Featuring highly on our list, ‘Very Sanderson: 150 years of English decoration’, is just one of the major exhibitions we’ll be reporting on next year.

The Fashion and Textile Museum will be presenting ‘Very Sanderson: 150 years of English decoration’, Sanderson being one of the most innovative fabric and furnishings companies in the world, and celebrating it’s 150th anniversary next year in 2010. The Sanderson company was established by Arthur Sanderson in 1860, and started out by importing French wallpapers before becoming a leading interior textile company.

Not only will this exhibition showcase the Sanderson story, but it will also reflect the changing era’s in which it has survived – from the the building boom of 1880’s England, to it's pioneering use of machine-printed papers.
The Sanderson’s wallpapers were influenced and inspired by British architects and designers of the era of Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin, Charles Eastlake, and William Morris, who all defined the British style of the 19th century.

We’re really looking forward to seeing this exhibition explore the history of British interior textiles, and how they influenced fashion and interior design history throughout the years. It could be a great visual research source for today’s fashion and textile designers, as one of the leading textile design companies adapts to the twenty-first century.
