Ada Zanditon S/S10 Colony

Echolocation is the latest concept behind Ada Zanditon’s collection, who will be showing her first solo show at London Fashion Week with Vauxhall Fashion Scout - the press is waiting eagerly to see her eco range.

Ada Zanditon is a dedicated ethical womenswear designer who incorporates architectural structures to create unique silhouettes and shapes. Strangely enough, bats found in England inspired her Autumn Winter 2010 collection, and meanwhile working in partnership with The Bat Conservation Trust. Ada was particularly interested in the bats use of high frequency sonar-like calls to aid them to fly effortlessly through pitch darkness. The echoes returned from their calls create a sonic map resulting in them guiding their way through their location. The collection has been hugely inspired by the bat in all it’s forms - including their colour; nocturnal habits and even aesthetics.

“Ada has taken this concept into the collection via a modern aesthetic and geometric cutting, echoing shapes within the silhouette that then ripple softly away from the body whilst maintaining a body con silhouette.”

Her prints also promise to be conceptually innovative, including her own photography and illustrations to create a ‘nocturnal vision’. The prints are rumoured to be inspired by branches, cobwebs and beating wings of nocturnal creatures, whilst the colour palette should reflect a setting winter sky and bruise-like colours. All has been printed ethically in the UK - obviously!

Ada’s pieces are conceptual yet wearable; her collections include strong pieces that can be worn by day and night. Her aim is for a collection that can carry a woman throughout her schedule, a key piece worn from the day to the night. This collection includes organic cottons, silks, silk jerseys and fair trade organic denim. There is also some Shetland wool woven in Gloucestershire, sustainable tencel Jersey and some very exciting bamboo and organic cotton t-shirts. Bamboo is a personal favourite: its qualities are similar to silk, it is very strong and beautiful to wear and easy to work with, although a little slippery like viscose at times.

YshLondon has been told that the collection will include glamorous chic dresses and a particular piece inspired by Tilda Swinton - sounds very interesting! The collection also includes T-shirts featuring two unique prints, with ten percent of the profits from these pieces being donated to the Bats Conservation Trust.
