Ysh London is thrilled by the announcement of a plan to build a new satellite gallery of the V&A in Dundee, Scotland, which will be open in 2014.
The Victoria & Albert Museum has launched an international architecture competition to design the £47milion centre on the bank of the river Tay in Dundee. Dundee is where our Ysh London’s editor is from, so we’d like to share the excitement of the news!
The V&A at Dundee will be built out on to the river Tay, and will host touring exhibitions and research into contemporary design. The project won’t come cheap however, with £46m needed from the government and private sponsors within just two to three years but Fiona Hyslop, the Scottish culture minister explained, "At a time of recession, sometimes it's important to be bold". V&A director Mark Jones said "I think this is a serious project which will actually do a good job."
At Ysh London, we also believe by making space for an important world pinnacle of a museum in Dundee, it will creates jobs, raise awareness of art, history, cultural studies and research as well as be an inspiring place to visit - well worth it!
