In Your Own Village, Justin Mortimer, Master Piper, Matthew Price

The holocaust, war and unavoidavable natural disasters always involve victims.
Death, injuries and bloody human flesh...I could almost hear the groans and screams from the paintings by Justin Mortimer which strike and confront us with fear.

'In Your Own Village' is a new art exhibition by Justin Mortimer curated by Matthew Price (and fellow Ysh London contributor) at London's Master Piper art gallery.

Ysh London is anticipating the opening of this contemporary art exhibition, which  consists of oil paintings often with themes of injury, suffering and near death, human behaviour of the post war, terror and unthinkable and awful events. These disturbing yet thought-provoking human figures and the remains are contrasted with square buildings, rubble and landscapes, which question how much human beings can suffer. Curator Matt Price describes the works as :

‘Powerful, challenging and disturbing paintings depicting the aftermath of the incomprehensible suffering that humans can inflict on their fellow men’

Justin Mortimer is a painter who graduated from the Slade School of Art in the early 1990s and is based in London. Previous awards for his work include First prize of the 'BP Portrait Award' at the National Portrait Gallery, the 'EAST' Award at EAST International in 2004, selected by Neo Rauch and Gerd Harry Lybke, to name but a few.
