As Topshops’ Sir Philip Green announces his (very strange) collaboration with music tycoon Simon Cowell, he also unveils his latest fashion collaborations.
The Christopher Kane collection for Topshop was the most recent designer-led project for the high street chain, with Kane’s crocodile and gorilla print t-shirt dresses going down a treat, with many fashionista’s darting to Topshop between shows to pick up a few items for themselves.
For the latest designer collaboration series,Topshop have really pushed the fashion boat out. Throughout February, Topshop will unveil not one, not two or three designer collaborations but an almighty five! This designer output is going to be rolling out the red carpet for the start of London Fashion Week, and you get the feeling that they’re showing the rest of the high street exactly how a designer collaboration should be done.
Today, Jonathan Saunders launches his collection of devoree and denim pieces. His collection will include a pencil skirt, a matching basque made from panels of denim and a black dress with devoree fabric lengths. I can’t wait to check this piece out, as Saunders returns to his time-honoured technique of devoree.
February 3rd will see the first collection launched in store, and in all major Topshop shops across London. Anne-Sofie Back, famous for handcuffing her models to rails and gaffa-taping their mouths, has created a six-piece collection for Topshop. Her collection comprises of 6 grey and black jumper dresses and T-shirt dresses slashed and distressed. The inspiration is rumoured to be based on American horror movies, with slashes a-la Freddie Kruger from ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ and more recently ‘Freddie Versus Jason’. The collection is carefully slashed and torn and can be styled over jeans with a colourful layer underneath or simply worn as a dress for the more daring, baring flesh.
Ashish, one of Ysh London’s favourites from last season will also be launching his collaboration with Topshop on the 3rd of February. He has a seven piece range including chunky wedge sandals and traditional tracksuits. His collection bares the trademark Ashish studs and spikes, whilst his sportswear-inspired range is made from cosy sweatshirt fabrics and then weighed down with stud and spike embellishment. The Biker jacket we thought is particularly interesting.
Richard Nicoll sees his fifth collaboration with Topshop this year. His collection launches February 18th, the day before London Fashion week launches. His collection resembles a similar style to that of Jonathan Saunders’s new collection, with panels of denim and basques. His pale grey colour palette enhances his flare for soft tailoring, and the collection also includes a body-con dress which doubles as a skirt and bustier as the pieces are detachable – a piece which has been given a lot of press and is sure to be a fast seller.

Last but certainly not least, and my very favourite, I am bursting with excitement as I write this, Mary Katrantzou. Her stunning digital prints have signalled a new innovation of skill and technique in the design of digital prints. This is her first collection for Topshop, where she promises a collection of four jewellery-inspired digital print pieces. Her collection includes a T-shirt dress with shoulder pads for £45, amazing. We want, we want!
