Exclusive news just released: Louise Goldin was announced as the prestigious winner of the 2010 Fashion Forward Prize, with a champagne reception to be hosted the evening in her honour, sponsored by Coutts, at the Garden Courts of Coutts on the Strand.

Louise Goldin has been chosen from a shortlist of highly talented and innovative UK-based emerging fashion designers including Emilio De La Morena, Basso and Brooke, the very highly media regarded Osman Yousefzada, Jean-Pierre Braganza and Todd Lynn. Previous accolades include the Swarovski award at the British Fashion Awards 2008, for emerging talent.

Louise Goldin graduated from Central Saint Martins with a Masters degree in knitwear; she also studied there for her BA. She first showed at London Fashion Week in 2005 and has ever since been pushing the boundaries of fashion design with her technical knitwear pieces. Her collection is always heavily dominated with body-con knitwear dresses, leggings, and jumpsuits. She chooses her yarns carefully and always seems to have something out of the ordinary to add to the complex knitwear design. Her knitwear techniques have revived the knitwear industry and have encouraged a wider range of knits on the high street. Louise Goldin also works for cashmere brand Ballantyne as a consultant designer.

The Fashion Forward sponsorship stems from the NEWGEN platform sponsored by Topshop. The scheme aids the progression of these NEWGEN designers, helping the designers to build a global business. The scheme has already established designers such as Erdem, Marios Schwab, Giles Deacon, Jonathan Saunders, Sinha Stanic and Roksanda Illincic

Coutts is the well renowned bank established over 300 years ago and is a rather strange match to sponsor a fashion event, yet they also are the principle sponsors of London Fashion Week and Matthew Williamsons’s ’10 years in Fashion’ retrospective at the Design Museum. They work closely with the British Fashion Council. However, they are the perfect prize sponsor, as the prize is worth £30,000 and a it also offers a close mentoring from business and industry leaders. Coutts’ have embraced the fashion industry with their series of credit and debit cards designed by various well-known fashion designers, another fashion must-have. Ozwald Boateng has designed their World Card, whilst Stella McCartney has designed the bank accounts card. Michael Morely, chief executive of Coutts bank said the following;

”Coutts has not always been thought of as a fashionable bank as far as its business model is concerned…but of course fashions come and go, and in 2010, liquidity and capital and being a conservative bank for over 300 years, have suddenly become the height of fashion.”
