New Designers 2010

As final year students are putting together the finishing touches to their final collections and stressed to the point of breakdown we’re sure, New Designers prepares to open it’s doors to these future graduates and welcome the masses to view the latest emerging talents and future trends.

From the 1st- 4th July, New Designers Part 1 will be exhibiting graduates collections from textiles, interiors, fashion and next season’s trends. This event is the freshest design event around and always draws a lot of press, international buyers, and prospective employers as well as anyone needing that little bit of inspiration including curators, stylists and prospective students. It is a fantastic opportunity to view students’ work as part of the college and speak to tutors and students.

Trend analysis companies such as WGSN and Trendstop are guaranteed to be scooting out the latest trends in textures, techniques, colour, fabrics and styles.

Around 3,500 graduates showcase a sample of their collections and will be praying this event will kick start their career, but at the very least they’re sure to leave with a contact or two, and having experienced their very first trade show and experience of the competitive side of the industry.

Representatives from the textile industries such as Graham and Brown, Hallmark Cards, Harlequin and Tigerprint are just some of the names attending this year. Some attendees also sponsor prizes –  as previously covered in our blog, last year Graham and Brown bought Melissa Selmin’s wallpaper designs and sold them under their own label, a defining success story for Melissa.

New Designers 2010

The satellite event ‘New Designers - One Year on’ is one of the most successful and popular elements of New Designers. It showcases designer-makers featured the previous year whose work has matured and progressed into their own start-up business. YshLondon is in particular anticipation of Clair McInally’s work, which was featured last year and caught the eye of Oasis, the womenswear store, who bought up and manufactured her designs, and which will be in store later this year. Look out also for Sarah-Jayne Guest who used digital printing techniques to great effect with her collection of highly patterned and bright home furnishings. Sarah Jayne has also worked alongside teams at ELLE magazine and Selfridges - can’t wait to see her collection!

Previous New Designers exhibitors, who are now at the helm of the design industry, include Matthew Williamson and Ella Doran. Hot foot it down to New Designers to snap up the latest talent!
