YshLondon.com has been very saddened by the recent news of Alexander McQueen’s death. McQueen has been the iconic role model for all fashion designers. He reached his status not through money or connections but through his raw talent and driving determination to stick to his beliefs.

McQueen was a renowned perfectionist, fretting over the smallest of details, but, he was always the highlight of any fashion Week. His shows were never a disappointment and were always more than just about fashion. His pieces always had a historical reference or was a metaphor for a deeper conceptual interest, yet he pioneered modernity in fashion. He treated his work like a living and breathing organism - more distant from commerciality than the average catwalk. This made it difficult to market his lines, yet he strived to continue and created the brand that we all idolise and love; Alexander McQueen.

It is being said that McQueen had not yet developed the global presence of such designers as Yves Saint Laurent or even Chanel for his name to survive his death. Whether this is true or not, we will have to wait for time to take its toll; however, one thing we know is that McQueen will live on within other designer’s and young graduate’s work.

The Competition:

Most students would have at one time or another based their projects on something Alexander McQueen created, whether they knew it or not.

With this in mind, we’d like you to send us images of your work that has been inspired by McQueen with an image of the original piece or inspiring image, as a dedication to the late Alexander McQueen.

YshLondon.com will choose an over all winner based on creativity and pure McQueenism.

Please send entries to delphine@yshlondon.com

The Prize:

The winner will receive two tickets to Graduate Fashion Week Gala Show 1.  Held on Wednesday June 9 at 5.30 p.m,  the Gala Show features the best collection from each of the shows that have taken place during the week. The best competition entries will be published in an article on YshLondon dedicated to the legacy that McQueen has left behind.
